What About Christmas Trees?
We all know that one day our Lord Jesus
came to this world in the form of a man to fulfil God’s plan of
salvation for us. We also know that He must have been born on a day, but
have you ever wondered why the Bible does not tell us clearly on which
day so that we could celebrate it and keep it sacred as we do with the Passover? Our Lord Jesus’ mission was only accomplished by His death. His death on the cross is really the event we must all celebrate because it granted every Christian eternal life.
Let us look at the celebration of
Christmas. The 25th December was first celebrated in Rome in the year
325 A.D. but if we search through the facts reported in the Bible around
Jesus’ birth, we will easily find that His birth was not in December
but somewhere between June and July. The evidence is very strong: in
Israel, winter occurs between December and January, when the temperature
drops low enough for snow to appear. The Bible says that the shepherds
were watching their sheep late one night when angels appeared, almost
scaring them to death. (Luke 2:11). Consider that December is too wet
for sheep, that the grass is just starting to grow in the Holy Land and shepherds would only stay out until late at night
in the summer time. Where did the idea of Christmas trees come from?
Let’s go back to Semiramis who had created the evil religion of Baal.
When her husband/son Nimrod died, she
commanded all her followers to cut trees and to adorn them to celebrate
his divinity. She had proclaimed Nimrod as a god. Read Jeremiah
10:3-4. Years later, to deceive the chosen of God and to make money, it
was decided to celebrate Jesus’ birth by decorating houses with trees.
